Laser Marking

Over the past few years, using laser as a method of marking products has become a realistic proposition. However, at The Needham Group we are still posed many questions, most commonly relating to speed, quality and notably cost.

OK, so the initial cost of laser marking is more expensive than, for example, an ink jet but that isn’t the whole story. Once you have purchased your ink jet, running costs must be considered: ink, makeup, filters, waste disposal. Add this to downtime and suddenly the cheap ink jet takes on a whole new meaning. In reality, laser marking is a less expensive coding option over the medium and long term. In fact, a cost comparison analysis between ink jet and laser marking, conducted by Macsa Laser, identified that the break-even point is attained at 21 months; hereafter the use of Macsa laser equipment is a saving in costs when compared with ink jet.

With regard to speed and quality, the unique high speed electronics, software and optics of Macsa Laser enables it handle higher speed production compared with other laser systems and with a choice of lenses, once again unique to Macsa, the desired size and high quality code that the customer requires is easily delivered.
